Catchy, exuberant, and pleasantly lo-fi, Girlfriends serve up two delightful pop confections that are equal parts The Byrds, Thee Oh Sees, and Pavement.  The first song, ‘Cave Kids,’ is nicely rollicking and ramshackle, complete with jangly guitars, doo-wop backing vocals, and a nice bit of tape hiss to top it all off.  Think sun-dappled melodies and your first post-swimming hole beer.

On the flip side, ‘Eat Around the Bad Parts’ is a nice complement, a purposeful run where the the previous song was a leisurely amble.  A more forceful, driving rhythm, plaintive vocals, and guitars reminiscent of Tom Petty’s ‘American Girl’ add up to a nice little stomper that’ll get you out of bed with a smile on your face.
